Story Description

Roundstone was once the finest fishing town on the Irish coast. Bustling docks, full nets, a community built on the sea. Then, without warning or explanation, it went quiet. No distress call. No evacuation. Just silence.

Nobody went in.

Nobody came out.

That was years ago.

Now the rumours are spreading through every harbour. Roundstone is back open. And the fish being pulled from those waters are unlike anything ever recorded, strange, beautiful specimens that the ultra wealthy are paying fortunes for. To display. To eat. To own.

You are a fisherman. Nothing more. Your wife is sick, the bills are piling up, and your two kids are counting on you to come home with something worth the trip.

The rumours have to be true. You need them to be true.

What you find is not what you expected. The locals are unsettling, there is a quota hanging over your head that you dread missing, and the whole place reeks of something rotten. But the pay is good and your family is counting on you. So for now, you stay.

• A / D or Arrow Keys — Move left and right
• E — Interact with NPCs, doors and enter fishing stance at the end of the dock
• Left Click — Cast your line and hit skill checks during the fishing minigame

Game Description

The Converted is a dark, humorous and unsettling fishing horror game created for the Fishing Horror Game Jam 2. Set in the quiet coastal town of Roundstone, all pixel art, music, dialogue and code was made entirely by Poonch (me).

Your goal is simple. Meet the daily quota before 22:00. Each day the quota grows, and each day gets a little harder to ignore what is around you. One in game day lasts 5 minutes, though time pauses whenever you are catching a fish or talking to the locals.

Fishing is your only source of income. Cast your line, haul in what you can, and sell what you find to meet the quota. The waters around Roundstone hold some unusual catches, and the richer the specimen, the higher the price. You are going to need every shmeckle.

The fishing itself is no walk in the park. Stay sharp and keep your focus, because whatever is on the end of that line will not make it easy for you to reel it in.

Head into the shop and introduce yourself to Perch, the local shopkeeper. He is not exactly thrilled to see you, but he is the only one open for business, so you are stuck with it.

Talking to Perch opens up his shop where you can hand in your catch to meet the quota whenever you are ready, or when time forces your hand. You can also upgrade your fishing rod here using eyeballs, a common item you will find out on the water.
